Barösund early in the morning

Route of Ariadne during this sailing was:
Inkoo (home harbour) – Elisaari – Rosala – Örö – Jurmo – Verkan – Nauvo – Gullkrona – Högsåra – Hanko – Inkoo

Inkoo 25.7. saturday

Fresh easterly wind forced us to plan the leaving from home berth. Ariadne turns only to port when in reverse and that would have been the wrong direction, also the wind would help us to turn to port. That’s why we reversed very slowly and hold the bow in place by hand and let the wind turn us so that the bow pointed to east. Good plan which worked well.

Elisaari
We were at Elisaari harbour late saturday evening. Met a friend of mine in the dark and they came for a visit and bought some whisky and cognac with them.  Excellent!

Rosala
We left Elisaari early sunday morning 26.7. No wind in the beginning, wind came when we were around Tammisaari so we raised the sails. We landed at Rosala harbour in the afternoon and also met some friends who were also on their way westward.

Örö

In the north tip of Örö looking west

From Rosala we turned the bow of Ariadne in the direction of Örö on Monday 27.7. in the morning. The start went smoothly otherwise, but the rudder got stuck in the middle of the departing. Luckily it was calm so there was no bigger hassle but the situation caused a slight heartbeat. The reason revealed after a quick diagnosis was the jamming of the control cable shackle in the chain housing.

Arriving in Örö there would have been a good pier place available but one good? meaning departor decided to stay in our way. He said that there would be a good place on the back pier, but unfortunately it meant that Ariadne no longer turned to the place we had already chosen and the Espoo couple who came after us took the place.

Jurmo

Jurmo is always fascinating

We left on Tuesday morning 28.7. to the west, and with Vänö island in front we approached the icebreaker path from the south and spotted on an small island many seals. The light weather took us to Jurmo while the machine was working. There, just before the harbor, the sailboat in front of us stopped in the middle of the narrow harbor fairway to wonder, apparently there was no space. The breakwater did have a free buoy in a good location, but for some reason it didn’t go there but turned back. And because it spun around relatively wide it meant we were forced to withdraw from the harbor, and turn a little further out and come back. When we were in the harbor pool again, one 8.5m long sailboat left the pier at the same time and it refused to dodge in any way, not even stop, the explanation was that it was so shallow …… Well, we proceeded cold and calmly and in the end we missed the boat by few centimeters because I decided not to be flexible. We attached nicely to the breakwater and the aforementioned stern buoy. We were in Jurmo for two nights and had a sauna both days.

Verkan

Verkan, restaurant Buffalo and the ribbs

For Verkan to eat ribs we left Jurmo on Thursday 30.7. We motored all the way. We originally docked expressionlessly near the end of the dock, where the neighbor was initially – before the motorboat coming in a moment later – two old and nice Merikarhu boats. The food and drink, of course the Napue GT at first, were excellent, again.

Nauvo

Sailing to Nauvo

In Nauvo

Breakfast at Verkan’s restaurant on Friday 31 July. our plan was initially “if there is room in Nauvo, then we will stay there, if not, we will continue the journey”. After all, I booked the place in advance, so there was no need to rush. The reserved space was spacious enough and at the end of the pier. Admittedly, there would have been space on the large guest pier as well, and the renovated pier looked much better than before. We would have fit well in the outer part of the pier as we were moving quite early. The place we reserved was at the end of a separate pier and was great, the pizzas were eaten on a restaurant ship on the same pier.

Gullkrona

Evening sun in Gullkrona

From Nauvo to the east on the first day of August, but where? There were at least Gullkrona, Stenskär-Birrskär and Brännskär as alternatives. The plan was one of those, that is, the one with the appropriate space. Gullkrona had space, since we were there already around noon. My idea was to park on the pier where there was a sign “Big Boats” and to fit in the middle so that there would be no problems getting out if the wind rises. The active harbor captain rushed beside us with his boat and questioned the draft. I slid 1.8m and he said to take the outermost buoy closest to the shore. Reason being that large boats with a draft of more than 2 m may come to the pier. The shore was also reportedly 3m deep ….. Contrary to my habits, I did not agree with the place offered and I mentioned that getting out next to the beach could be challenging if the weather changes. Thrown a comment “so you can’t control your boat”. I left more reasoning for it and replied that we will not take the buoy closest to shore but the next one. He contented himself with this, albeit with a strange glimpse. We docked, and soon 33 or 36 Nauticat parked on the same dock, accompanied by quite a mecca. The bowperson and skipper had something wordy. Accompanied by a controversy, they changed places and, of course, to the middle of the pier. Well, there is a certainly draft of 1.3m in that NautiCat, so the place in the middle of the Big Boats pier is probably right. Let’s see if we bother to go there again.

Sauna number 2. was good, brand new and spacious.

Högsåra

Sauna in Högsåra and a beer

We left Gullkrona early on Sunday 2.8. and the bow of Ariadne turned in the direction of the Hiittinen. We docked at Högsåra’s Kejsarhamnen, although the stern wind being surprisingly strong and gusty brought a little extra color to the docking, but this time too we didn’t hit anything. We went to eat at Farmors Cafe and for the evening we booked a sauna, the bigger and newer. It was great again.

Hanko

GT time in Hanko

Monday 3.8 morning came and we headed towards Hanko. After the initial calm, we lifted the sails after few hours and sailed the seal fairway comfortably at a speed of 7.1 knots at best.

In Hanko on Monday night, the program included Classic Pizza pizzas with Jatu and Arja. Originally plans to leave home was immediately on Tuesday morning, but the fatigue generated by the morning awakening at Högsåra made us stay in Hanko for another day. On Tuesday we hung out without doing anything miraculous, though at the Casino we went to lunch and dinner at HSF. Wednesday 5.8. we left for Inkoo in the morning in full swing and we only lifted the sails in front of Ekenäs when the wind started.
